Braunlage (Wurmberg)

The town in Lower Saxony in the middle of the Harz Nature Park is one of the oldest winter sports areas in the whole of Germany. The almost 1000 m high Wurmberg is a particularly attractive destination for winter sports enthusiasts, as this ski area has it all: it combines a magnificent snowy landscape with modern winter sports facilities. Skiing and hiking enthusiasts alike can enjoy themselves here.

The Wurmberg ski area is the largest alpine ski center in the Harz Mountains and offers seven lifts with a total of 15 runs, most of which are classified as easy to moderately difficult. Only the steep "Hexenritt" slope with a gradient of 60 percent should only be attempted by advanced skiers. With a proud length of 4.3 km and an altitude difference of 405 meters, it is the longest ski slope in Germany outside the Alps. Fun is guaranteed. But all those who are trying out skiing for the first time will also find what they are looking for here: The Braunlager ski schools offer individual or small group lessons with individual supervision. Snowboarders can also let off steam here to their heart's content: In addition to two long main runs, there is a slope specially geared towards the needs of snowboarders and other gentle slopes. The "sunny slope" in particular is ideal for carving. Almost all of the runs offer spectacular views that make the hearts of winter sports enthusiasts beat faster. Visitors can also try their hand at a freestyle course - a real treat for any skier. If that's not enough, you can take a closer look at the impressive ski jumps on the Wurmberg. The possibilities are almost limitless.

In addition to the wide range of activities for skiers and snowboarders, the Wurmberg has many a surprise in store. A 1.5 km long, fast toboggan run starts at the middle station on the Wurmberg. German tobogganing championships have already been held here. This is no coincidence, as it is one of the longest snow-covered toboggan runs in Germany. In addition, tobogganists have the opportunity to race down the slope on a snowtubing run. The Wurmberg is also ideal for winter hikes. Idyllic winter hiking trails lead through the snow-covered landscape. The quarry and the large and small Wurmberg cliffs are particularly worth a visit. Cross-country skiers have a large network of trails with various routes at their disposal, while the ice rink in Braunlage offers the opportunity to take part in various sports such as ice skating, curling and ice hockey. Late at night, you can also explore the town's nightlife at numerous ice disco events.
