Directions

You leave the parking lot to the right and follow the forest road, passing the forest kindergarten. After 500m you reach a crossroads, which you leave sharply to the right on the forest path towards Taternplatz. Enjoy the beauty of the Herrenwiesen here, then after 400m turn right onto the gently ascending forest path. You can often already see Harz red cattle here. After another 400m you climb up the Prinzenstieg, an ancient miner's path, through a green beech and mixed forest to the Vogelherd. At an exact height of 400m, you have a beautiful view over the meadows of Hasenwinkel. This intersection to the left is the Vogelherd, where a table and benches invite you to rest. Now follow the forest path sharply to the right and walk above the meadows, past the area of the formerly only meadow ski jump in Northern Germany. Then continue to the viewpoint "Alte Wache", about 40m off the path to the left, with a magnificent view over the Wieda valley, having surpassed the highest point of this route at 464m. Here you also have a view of the Käseberg, the bell tower - the Wieda landmark - and the Otto-Haberlandt-Straße with the Luther Church. Back on the forest path, it goes steadily downhill to the starting point of this Nordic walking route. (Prinzenstieg: During the mining period around Wieda, this path was used by miners on their way to the workplaces).
