At the Kurpark in Bad Sachsa, just before the “Frechdachs”, Germany's only schoolchildren's monument, begins the 5th stage of the BaudenSteig. Through the wild romantic Uffe valley the path leads to Stöberhai (720 m above sea level), the highest mountain in the South Harz. The origin of the name is not clear, it is assumed that a charcoal burner “Stöber” had his “Hai”, i.e., his charcoal site, here. The “Berghotel Stöberhai” with an observation tower was already built in 1889; many guests from Berlin stayed here. In 1980, the hotel was destroyed by a major fire. Until 1989, the Bundeswehr had installed listening devices towards the east on the tower at Stöberhai. The tower was demolished in 2005. Today there is a shelter and resting benches at Stöberhai. A fantastic view of Sankt Andreasberg, Wurmberg, and the Brocken reward the ascent. The next destination is Stöberhai Station. Although the Walkenried-Braunlage railway line was closed in 1963, the former station still houses a beautiful forest restaurant. After refreshment, continue to Wieda, which lies in a forest-closed valley on the river of the same name. Those who want can walk another 5 km and stay overnight in Zorge.

Directions
From the town center in Bad Sachsa (S) to the Kurhaus and over the small parking lot towards Eulingswiese. A wide forest path leads upwards. Out of the forest, over the parking lot to the Hermann-Löns Monument (1). Left on the road a few meters downhill, then right to continue on the path (Path 5). Left on the Kronenbergweg downhill into the Ostertal (2). At the junction in the valley, hike right uphill. Along the Uffe, ignore all side paths and continue upwards towards Ravensberg. Then the Uffe spring with shelter (3) is already in sight. Right past the hut on the Uffe spring path uphill. The path meets a junction, here turn left uphill towards Stöberhai. Soon the Stephan hut is reached. Heinrich von Stephan was Postmaster General and inventor of the postcard. Cross the junction, straight on a wide forest path to the Dr. Hampe hut. Now through a windthrow area – now with a great view, up to the Kyffhäuser. At the Lärchenplatz (4) with shelter a beautiful view of the Oder reservoir and Bad Lauterberg. From the hut walk back a short distance (approx. 20 m) and then straight uphill. At the summit of Stöberhai (5) a wonderful panoramic view up to the Brocken. Today there is a shelter with terrace and benches here. Hike downhill on a wide forest path, the Nordhäuser Stieg. Because in earlier times the Nordhäuser traveled by train to Stöberhai station and then hiked on this path to Stöberhai, the colloquial name for this path is “Nordhäuser Stieg.” Past a large wildlife feeding place to the Historic Stöberhai Station (6) (refreshment stop). Before the bridge, turn right. Along the old railway track of the Walkenried – Braunlage line. In the idyllic Weinglas valley almost to the L601. Shortly before, the path turns right. Above the main road along a wide path. Then a few meters on the main road right into the town. At the Wieda town sign the next opportunity right. At a shelter left onto a meadow path to the Bergstraße. Cross this, then over a bridge and immediately left down steps. Through the spa park to Hotel Krone or continue to the town center (7) and the town hall.
