The circular route takes you from the Hainich through the Thuringian Basin and over the Heilinger Heights.

Ride through the old town of Mühlhausen past the Schwanenteich, then from Weidensee on a gently ascending gravel road directly into the Hainich. Behind Heyerode you return to the Unstrut-Werra Cycle Path (a short push section over a farm). Over gravel and then asphalt you ride downhill to Niederdorla (center of Germany, peat bog). Behind Höngeda, continue on the Unstrut Cycle Path to Thamsbrück and the K2 Cycle Path to Kirchheilingen. Then ride moderately uphill into the Heilinger Heights, where you have a beautiful view of the Thuringian Basin and the Thuringian Forest. A short section takes you down a tank road to Blankenburg. Then enjoy the magnificent view from the mountain “Großer Horn”, now towards Hainleite and Harz, before continuing on lightly trafficked roads to Ebeleben (castle park worth seeing). The Unstrut-Werra Cycle Path leads you through Schlotheim and Körner (detour to Volkenroda Monastery) and back to the old town of Mühlhausen.
