The small scenic hike to Sorge and back also invites you to a historically significant circular route in the Sorge district. In Sorge, which was located in the former restricted area, you can learn a lot about the restricted area in the small border museum at the train station and also along the former inner-German border in the open-air border museum. Become contemporary witnesses to this division between two German countries.

Directions
Start your hike from the parking lot at the train station and cross the railway tracks. After a few meters, turn left into Sandbrink. Your path leads you along some apartment blocks. After the last apartment block, turn right and follow the hiking trail towards Sorge. After about 2.5 km, you will reach the picturesque village of Sorge. Here you have the opportunity to enjoy the view of the Harz narrow-gauge railway with its station as well as the impressive mountain masses such as the Wurmberg and the Brocken.
At the end of Benneckensteiner Street, the small border museum is located in the station building (season: May to October - guided tours possible on request in the winter months!). If you want to take a short detour to the open-air border museum (open year-round), follow Ebersbachstraße, which crosses the railway tracks. The open-air border museum is about 1.5 km from the station.
Continue your circular route via Försterbergstraße. Here you can take one last look at the mountains before heading towards Benneckenstein. After about 1 km from Sorge, you will come across the former border company. Hike along the buildings to a junction and turn left.
From there, continue where you can enjoy the idyllic peace. After another 1.5 km, the path leads over the railway tracks, from where you can already see the first houses of the Benneckenstein district. Pass the fire station and hike the last meters of this historic circular route until you return to the starting point of your hike.
Have fun on your exploration route!
