Your winter circular route through the enchanting Harz landscape begins in the small Harz village of Elend from the Ortsmitte parking lot.
The approximately 7 km long winter hiking route leads alongside the Kalte Bode through the wildly romantic Elendstal directly to Schierke and back.

Enjoy a relaxed winter hike on a well-walkable and gently sloping forest path from Elend to Schierke through the picturesque Elendstal. The distance to Schierke is about 3 km and is ideal for families with small or large children.
Along the way, the "Kalte Bode" babbles, and children can discover a lot at the roadside. After about 1.5 km, you will find seating options that are perfect for a small break.
Once in Schierke, various places to eat are available to refresh yourself and enjoy the winter atmosphere. Here you also have the option to end your winter hike and take the bus back to Elend to the starting point.
However, if you want to enjoy the magical winter landscape even longer, you can continue the hike as a circular route back to the starting point in Elend. The return route follows the same path, allowing you to experience the beauty of the Elendstal again.

Directions & Parking facilities
You can reach Elend by car
- via B27 from the direction of Braunlage and Blankenburg
- as well as via B244 from the direction of Wernigerode through Elbingerode
- or via L100 and L99 from the direction of Wernigerode through Drei-Annen-Hohne.
You can reach the Harz village Elend by bus of the Harzer Verkehrsbetriebe:
from the direction of Wernigerode and Braunlage
or
by the Harzer Schmalspurbahn from the direction of Wernigerode or Nordhausen.
TIP :
With the Harz Vacation Ticket, you can travel freely throughout the entire Harz district.
