Circular hike around Quedlinburg with beautiful views of the Harz foothills.

We start the circular hike at the parking lot on Stresemannstraße (Itschensteg) directly at the hiking meeting point of the Harzklub branch association Quedlinburg.

From there, we follow Stresemannstraße southeast: straight ahead over the traffic light intersection, over the railway barriers, past Johanniskirche (1906) and Johanniskapelle (originally 12th century; opposite the chapel you can still see the enclosure of the former healing spring at Johannishain). The next building (today a residential home for Lebenshilfe) was built at the beginning of the 20th century as an institution for neglected boys. At the end of Stresemannstraße, we continue straight ahead: Johannishöfer Trift. At the next junction, turn right: Käthe-Kollwitz-Straße.

Immediately behind the block Käthe-Kollwitz-Straße 7-9, turn left and follow the path. At the end of the block, straight onto the country path (garages on the left, garden area on the right). The country path leads us out of the town into the fields. At the end of the tree avenue, the path turns into a concrete track. We follow this until crossing L66. The road is clearly visible; nevertheless, extreme caution when crossing the road! After crossing, continue straight on the country path. At the first crossroads, also straight ahead, then past a driving silo from DDR / LPG times. At the second crossroads, turn right, then straight ahead to the next intersection, there turn left, and always straight on to Bicklingswarte. After climbing the tower, return to the crossroads. Now continue straight ahead. We follow the signage of the Warten-Rad-Rundweg in the direction of Aholzwarte. At the end of the country path, we meet L66 again, turn left to the roundabout. At the roundabout, more or less turn right (use pedestrian crossing aids!) and leave the roundabout towards Quedlinburg. Then turn left: country path to Quarmbeck (Kohlweg). Now straight ahead, through Quarmbeck (Str. des Friedens), cross L239 and then turn right (roadside pedestrian/cycle path), uphill and shortly before the crest left onto the country path: Holzbreite. Always follow Holzbreite, at the end (rail crossing) turn right into Neinstedter Feldweg, Gernröder Weg, Rambergweg, Stresemannstraße, parking lot Stresemannstraße.

Author´s Tip / Recommendation of the author

The Bicklingswarte is a watchtower from the Middle Ages and can today be climbed like an observation tower.
From the tower, you have a magnificent view of the Harz and the Harz foothills: Gegensteine, Stubenberg, Roßtrappe, Teufelsmauer, Brocken, Regenstein, Hoppelberg, Quedlinburg, Lehof, Seweckenberge

Safety guidelines

Extreme caution when crossing and walking on or near roads.
