The hike leads around the Natura 2000 area "Spaltenmoor east of Friedrichsbrunn", which is also a nature reserve. Here on the Ramberg massif grows a very old hay-sedge beech forest with impressive old and deadwood. Rare insects like the spotted longhorn beetle, the tawny owl, and the lesser horseshoe bat are native here, for example. Along a small mountain stream that runs through the area, extensive swamp forests grow. The hike passes historical state borders and the Buttersteine. It is said that the "butter women" once rested here by leaning their heavy baskets on a stone on their way to the nearest market.
