Directions

Our hike begins and ends at the parking lot of the Café "Dammbachtal" in Trautenstein.

It is located at the entrance of Trautenstein coming from Benneckenstein or Tanne.

We follow the field path to the right and go as far as the forest parking lot at the edge of the high forest.

Here we turn left into the lower Dammbach Valley.

After about 800 m we leave the high forest and see a small bridge on the left side.

We cross this and keep to the right.

From the weather shelter hut, we follow the hiking trail signs of the Harz Club Trautenstein for about 3.1 km to the Carlshaus Tower.

About 500 m before the destination, there is another steep ascent to the plateau of the Carlshaus Tower, the highest point of the hike at 626 m above sea level.

At the top, we find stamp station no. 51 of the Harz Hiking Badge, a weather shelter, and a rest area.

The observation tower is a free-to-enter steel tower with 150 steps to the upper viewing platform at about 30 m height.

Climbing the Carlshaus Tower rewards the effort with a fantastic panoramic view of the Brocken panorama and opposite to the Joseph Cross and Kyffhäuser.
