A circular hike of about 13 km along the Hassel forebay and the Rappbode forebay.

Two reservoirs, three stamps of the Harzer Wandernadel, and far-reaching views over the Harz mountains are offered to you by the two-dam hike. The first part of the hike takes you along the Hassel forebay. Numerous seating options give you the opportunity to enjoy the views and listen to the sounds of nature. After crossing the dam, your next destination is the Rappbode forebay. Very close to the dam there is the Rappbodeblick with a stamp point and viewing bench. The route continues along the Rappbode forebay, part of the Harzer-Hexen-Stieg, to Trageburg. Here, the view of the Brocken massif and Wurmberg is a constant companion. Upon reaching Trageburg, it is good to take a rest and stamp the 3rd Harzer Wandernadel stamp in your booklet before returning to your starting point.

Directions

From the hiking car park behind the Hagenmühle, we walk about 3 km along the right bank of the Hassel forebay to the dam. Two viewpoints with benches invite you to linger. The stamp point 53 of the Harzer Wandernadel is located directly at the dam.

For a long rest, there is a seating area at the dam.

With fresh strength, you cross the dam. There, keep right and after about 400 m turn right again onto the forest path and go down the hill to the "Kuhfurt-Tälchen". Here you turn left. On the forest road, it goes uphill steadily for about 1 km to the hiking junction "Altes Wasserwerk". Here you have the option to hike to the Kleine and Große Rabenstein. (Trail markings: green and yellow bar)

Otherwise, at the hiking junction, go left and follow the forest road, which leads steadily downhill to the dam of the Rappbode forebay. Two information boards explain the beneficial purposes of the damming system.

We hike over the dam and enjoy two beautiful views of the reservoir and the Rappbode valley.

You can reach stamp point 56 via a side path that leads slightly uphill to the right behind the dam to a resting bench. From the Rappbodeblick stamp point, you cross back over the dam and follow the Harzer-Hexen-Stieg towards the Bodendenkmal "Trageburg", where the Wandernadel stamp 52 is located in the weather shelter hut. Then continue on the Harzer-Hexen-Stieg towards Hasselfelde to the starting point.

Equipment

Sturdy footwear, functional clothing, backpack supplies, sun and rain protection are recommended.

Remember to pack your (mobile) camera, the Harzer Wandernadel stamp booklet, and possibly binoculars.
