Directions

The hiking tour starts at the Tanne car park and leads us towards Benneckenstein to the bridge, which we cross on the left side. Keeping left again, we come to Jägerborn Street. After about 150 m we turn right towards Hochwald. We continue hiking on a steep climb of about 700 m. From Jägerborn towards "Lange" there are information boards along the way describing the life of meritorious foresters. Shortly before "Lange" we come across a board indicating a "charcoal pile site".

Once "Lange" is reached, we hike right and after a few meters right again. Here we follow the "Schützenthal path" back to Tanne. After about 700 m we reach a pond on the left side. During a rest, we can listen to the song of the feathered forest inhabitants. Two small boards on the left about "black alder" and a Goethe poem cheer us up.

Following the path towards Tanne, we see further information boards about the tree species of the Harz forest. Once back in Tanne, we cross the Bode bridge to return to the starting point of our hike.

Author´s Tip / Recommendation of the author

On the way back to Tanne, down into the Schützenthal, you also pass the ski slope where the Tanner Ski Carnival takes place every February. Great fun for the whole family and all revellers.
