We start our tour at the marketplace in Ilsenburg. From there, we cycle south on Rudolf-Breitscheid-Straße and follow the Ilse into the wild romantic Ilse valley. The murmuring and rushing of the river accompany us for several kilometers. From time to time we cross the Ilse and also pass the Ilse falls. Through the forest area and the Harz National Park, we cycle uphill to the Bremer Hut, which marks a stage goal on the way up to the Brocken. We turn left from the Bremer Hut into Jagdweg and follow this continuously uphill eastward. At the next junction, we take the far right way towards Plessenburg and soon pass the forest inn of the same name. There we can stop for a break or continue riding directly. We cycle on the Huyseburger Häu-Weg through the forest and over open spaces. In between, idyllic distant and panoramic views await us. In the middle of the Harz National Park, we use official paths. We ride via Eschwegestraße past cliffs and mountains and follow the signs to the Nature Experience Center Hohnehof. A visit is also worthwhile for large visitors – the site also offers a place for a snack and drink break. The latter can also be purchased in Hohnehof. From there, it goes on to Drei Annen Hohne station. With a bit of luck, we can observe the steaming narrow-gauge railways on their way to or from the Brocken. We turn left from Brockenstraße into a trail that leads us along the Zillierbach. After a few kilometers, we reach the L100, follow it a bit north, and then turn right into the Drängetal valley path. This path leads steadily downhill through the forest to Wernigerode. At the junction just before the town, we keep left into Schäfergrund. Now we are back in urban area and take the fourth street on the right. We continue along the triangle, then turn left into Wüstenteichen street and follow the tracks of the Harzquerbahn. On cycle paths and side streets, we continue always alongside the railway and now also see the steam locomotives puffing through the city center. We follow the signs towards the marketplace and admire the idyllic half-timbered houses. We follow Gustav-Petri-Straße and turn left at the end into the cycle path that follows Ochsenteichstraße and Waldhofstraße. After the Waldhofbad, we turn right into "Am Auerhahn" and follow the path toward the town exit. At Himmelpforte, we enter the forest again, cycle past ponds and the former Himmelspforte monastery. We ride on forest paths, all of which have a hilly character, towards Darlingerode and Oehrenfeld. We continue to follow the signs toward Ilsenburg and finally arrive back at our starting point after passing the Ilsenburg monastery.
