We start our stage at the marketplace of the historic old town of Wernigerode, popularly known as "the colorful town in the Harz." A worthwhile photo subject is the town hall, first mentioned in documents in 1277 and still shining today with the preserved half-timbered late Gothic building from the 15th century. Passing the Westerntor tower via Westernstraße, we cross the Zillierbach and turn diagonally left opposite us into the street "An der Malzmühle." We keep straight ahead out of town until we reach Schäfergrund via Trift and from there turn right onto Drängetal Hangweg. We follow this paved forest road continuously south through the forest until we meet the Zillierbach again and follow it to Drei Annen Hohne. We ride directly past the station of the Harz narrow-gauge railway. Here is a stop of the popular Brockenbahn, which puffs its way from here to the highest mountain in northern Germany or heads back downhill towards Wernigerode. With some luck, we can observe one of the historic narrow-gauge trains. A detour to the Nature Experience Center HohneHof about 800 meters away with the Löwenzahn discovery trail and a small café is worthwhile. It offers numerous opportunities for children and adults to experience, discover, and enjoy nature. We follow the L100 for a short distance before crossing the railway tracks and turning left into Sachshäusweg. We follow this until the junction with Alte Heerstraße. Here we turn left and follow the path to Elend, where we cycle along the main road and Braunlager Straße near the famous wooden church. The church in Elend is the smallest wooden church in Germany, consecrated in 1897 and a popular photo subject. After a short visit, we turn right and follow Alte Braunlager Straße until we encounter the B27, which we cross carefully, and then turn onto an exciting singletrail parallel to the federal road. At the junction with Kolonnenweg, we pass "Kukki's pea soup," offered to passersby and hikers and now known nationwide. Shortly before Braunlage, we pass the former inner-German border, where a monument recalls the history. Our narrow trail also crosses the border path and shortly thereafter the small river Bremke. We finally reach Braunlage, meet the B27 again, and finish our stage in the center near the Warme Bode.
