To Braunlage

For this route in the Upper Harz to Braunlage, you should already have a certain basic fitness. Although the altitude gain does not add up like in alpine conditions, there are still some altitude meters to be covered. Right from the start in Thale, the incline towards Rosstrappe sets the tone for the later climbs from Blankenburg and Wernigerode. Once you reach the plateau between 400 and 500 meters above sea level in front of the Brocken massif, the longest climbs are behind you and you can fully enjoy the magnificent landscape. From Braunlage in the Western Harz, the route leads in a wide arc through the Eastern Harz back to Thale.
