The route tour through varied landscapes to the beautiful half-timbered town of Quedlinburg is the perfect combination of nature and cultural experience. Paved, well-developed paths alternate with natural, partly sandy paths through the fields and through the Quedlinburg city forest. Highlights along the way, besides the wonderful nature, are the views of the UNESCO World Heritage town from the Altenburg watchtower and, of course, the Quedlinburg experience. On the way back, the view of the "Hamburger Wappen," the rock formation of the Teufelsmauer near Timmenrode, delights. The attentive cyclist will also discover beautiful and interesting things on both sides of the path, which may not be quite as spectacular. This tour certainly belongs to one of the easier cycling routes in the Harz. Nevertheless, some shorter climbs must be overcome. Thanks to the free Harz app, you are always on the right path. Have fun!

Note: The return route can be on the same path or combined with the Eastern circular route

Route description (easy tour from Blankenburg)

The tour begins at the tourist information center at Schnappelberg. The app leads you out of town via Helsunger Straße and through the beautiful orchard alley towards the Helsunger Krug inn. But first, you cross the old, disused railway line between Blankenburg and Thale. The short stretch of country road is quickly overcome, and you can comfortably roll towards Westerhausen. Caution is advised when crossing the state road 240. From afar, the Camel Rocks near Westerhausen greet you. The ride along the now following sandy field path up to the horse paddocks at the entrance to Westerhausen requires concentration. Westerhausen is quickly passed via Alte Warnstedter Straße, Hüneberg, Feldstraße, and Kuckucksberg. An information board at Hüneberg explains historical facts; a sign pointing to the Harz winery invites you to the farm shop with all its delicious specialties.

Shortly after the area of Westerhausen, the previous field and meadow landscape alternates with the Quedlinburg city forest. Tip for a small detour: About 200 m after the Rennplatz forester's house, a narrow path on the left leads through the pine stands to an orchard at the edge of the forest. A cozy bench invites you to rest with a view of the "Eselstall." Fans of the Harz book series "In the Shadow of the Witches" are rewarded here with a popular stamp at one of the literary locations. The app-based bike tour to Quedlinburg continues on the wide path through the forest towards the east. Several short climbs are followed by descents along dense forest stands and clearings, which allow a slightly gravelly but firm surface. Here in the Quedlinburg city forest, you will find many hiking signs of the local Harz club branch association. Cyclists are advised to stay on the suggested app route, as the marked hiking trails are sometimes very narrow and lead rather steeply down from the sandstone ridge to Quedlinburg in the "Altenburg" area. But first, treat yourself to the view from Altenburg watchtower, an approximately 11 m high rock tower. 44 steps lead via a spiral staircase to the observation platform. If the greenery does not grow too lush, you have a wonderful view of the Schlossberg of Quedlinburg from here. The path continues through the gnarled old tree alley and the somewhat bumpy concrete slab path down to the street. A cycle and pedestrian path alongside the road can be used here. Do not miss the turnoff at the Mühlgraben of the Bode into the Brühlchaussee, which brings you directly to the Brühl park. You walk through this and reach the end of Brühlstraße at the end of the route. Now your experience "discover Quedlinburg" can begin. At the roundabout, you will find helpful signs for pedestrians towards the historic old town or Schlossberg.

If you do not want to return on the same path, the return route via the "Eastern circular route" is also an option, which also leads through Quedlinburg. You can connect from the Quedlinburg market square towards Marschlinger Hof.
