The old town of Goslar is known as part of the World Heritage and is much visited. This nature route is intended to show you that there is more to experience in Goslar than "just" culture.

In the urban ecosystem, diverse special living conditions can be found in which plants, animals, and tiny organisms exist. The nature route through the old imperial city of Goslar attempts to point out the surprisingly diverse nature in the human-inhabited cultural space of the city. The city lives, also in treetops, pavement cracks, and on wall projections. The route will convey nature to you using examples that you would otherwise pass by with open eyes. The living conditions of the species and their ecology encourage reflection on urban ecology.

The second nature route also begins at Schuhhof in the heart of Goslar's old town. The facade of the Hirsch Pharmacy is greened and serves, among other things, as a habitat for small animals, birds or insects, or as an air filter. Façade settlers like ivy protect houses from moisture, cool in summer and help save heating costs in winter. Additionally, wild grape, Japanese knotweed, and woodbine grow there. At Schuhhof and the adjacent market square, you will find scattered trees that are of special importance for the urban habitat. They produce oxygen and filter dust and exhaust gases. From the market square, continue to Christian-von-Dohm-Platz. Here you find elms, which in Europe are often threatened by Dutch elm disease and whose cultivation of resistant specimens aims to secure them for the future. Via Abzuchtstraße you reach Kötherstraße and on to the ramparts. On your way, you will pass by species-rich gardens and front yards, which serve as habitats for numerous animals. Ponds, such as the Kahnteich, enliven the cityscape and offer a good resting place for those seeking relaxation. For many water-adapted animal and plant species, they form an indispensable basis for life. The return path leads you past the Kaiserpfalz, a unique monument of secular architecture, and the cathedral forecourt. Opposite you find the "Amtsgerichtslinde", which characterizes the cityscape with its tall and slender crown. Follow the Hohen Weg and turn right behind the market church back to Schuhhof.
