Directions

The tour starts at Artern station and takes you to the spa and salt town of Bad Frankenhausen. Past the Barbarossa cave, where according to legend Barbarossa hides. The route continues to Kelbra and the Kelbra reservoir. Due to the bird diversity, UNESCO declared the Kelbra reservoir a "wetland of international importance." During bird migration in spring and autumn, you can watch thousands of cranes and wading birds with binoculars from the observation towers. Further along parallel to L220, the path leads to Tilleda. Powerful rulers stayed for 1000 years at the royal palace Tilleda, and at the Tilleda orchard center, you can taste the diverse flavors of traditional fruit varieties from the Kyffhäuser region. From Tilleda, the route continues via Ichstedt and back to the station.
