From Bad Grund past the Albertturm and the Kuckholzklippe with a wonderful view to Lerbach.

The BaudenSteig passes numerous Bauden (hiking inns) offering hikers a light day’s load. The start is in Bad Grund. The varied history of the Harz spa and holiday town Bad Grund is closely connected with the Iberger limestone massif. Iron ore was mined here until 1885. In the mid-1980s, therapeutic cave treatment began. Unique in the Harz is also the exotic forest "WeltWald Harz." 600 species of trees from around the world grow in this approximately 100-hectare park-like forest. It is the most important facility of its kind in Europe. Bad Grund also has plenty to offer children, such as the Legends and Fairy Tale Valley, where each fairy tale house and all fairy tale figures are handcrafted. A special feature is the HöhlenErlebnisZentrum "Iberger stalactite cave." Even a snowball fight in summer is possible – with snow from former glacier kettles. Plenty of reasons to spend a day in Bad Grund before tackling the first stage of the BaudenSteig from Bad Grund to Lerbach. It is the longest stage, but there is plenty of time to stop at the Albertturm, the first Baude on the BaudenSteig.

Directions

The start is at the Hübichplatz in the center of Bad Grund (S). Take the Hübichweg slightly uphill and turn right towards Hotel Waldhaus. The path becomes narrower and leads into the forest. At the rest bench, turn sharply left to the intersection at the town sign. Cross the street and follow the house driveway on the right. Pass through the impressive Teufelstal by the Heilstollen and Märchental. Carefully cross the B242, along the entrance of the HöhlenErlebnisZentrum (1). From here, uphill on a wide gravel path, at the next intersection turn left. After a distinctive rock, continue right. Hike on the Adelbert-Bösche-Stieg to a wood storage area. Take the next left. On a narrow path to the Bismarckklippe. Above, the path meets a wide forest road, turn left here and after about 500m right, directly to the Albertturm. The 33 m high tower offers a view as far as Thuringia. The Baude invites you in for a break (2). Continue left on the wide gravel path, soon a narrow path branches off to the right. Downhill to the Schweinebraten junction (3). Continue on forest roads to the Taternplatz. Cross the B242, then to the Gewitterplatz. Here slightly downhill half-left, past the cabin "Kaysereiche" (4). Straight ahead to Lasfelder Tränke (5) (rest benches and memorial stone). Turn left uphill to the parking lot at Prinzenteich. At the end of the second parking lot, take the path into the forest. Over a wooden bridge along the shore of the lake, turn right over the dam. After the dam, turn right uphill, soon an unobstructed view over the entire Prinzenteich (6). Return to the B242. Cross the street, follow the meadow path until a wide gravel path continues to the right. Take the first left and at the end of the street straight ahead to the forest. Continue on the path until a shelter appears. On the right is the lookout tower "Kuckholzklippe" (7) – fantastic view. The path descends steeply for a short stretch (caution when wet). Follow the wide gravel path to the right down to the street. Now to Lerbach (8). The official path goes down stairs through the forest, always downhill into the town. The alternative: about 150 m to the left to the viewing pavilion "Clara Höhe" with a nice view over Lerbach and then downhill on a wide path into the town. You can order the well-deserved after-work beer. Look forward to the hour of arrival!
