The Teufelsmauer, a rock ridge made of hard sandstone, stretches along the northern edge of the Harz from Blankenburg to Ballenstedt. Numerous legends and myths surround the steep cliffs with peculiar names, as in many places in the Harz. Along the way, wide panoramas open up to the hiker, which seem like a window into the eventful history of this region. Castles, palaces, and monasteries still bear witness to it today. On the Harz Teufelsmauerstieg, hikers encounter bizarre natural beauty and a very old, still living cultural landscape.
Special notes, tips:
Michaelstein Monastery in Blankenburg, Wendhusen Monastery in Thale, Weddersleben paper mill, castle ensemble in Ballenstedt, and much more.

Directions
The "Grandfather" in Blankenburg, at the town exit towards Timmenrode, is the starting point. On the northern ridge path, the route follows the Teufelsmauer through tall mixed forest to the "Hamburger Wappen" in Timmenrode. From there, a level path leads to Thale OT Warnstedt. In Warnstedt, there is a slight ascent to the "Papensteine". Towards Weddersleben, the "Mittelsteine" and "Königstein" are passed. This is the halfway point on the Teufelsmauerstieg! Over the new Bode bridge, the route goes to Neinstedt, also a district of Thale, and continues to Bad Suderode. The trail now leads through Gernrode. A detour to the Romanesque collegiate church is worthwhile here. The transition to the neighboring Rieder is barely noticeable. From here, the Teufelsmauerstieg runs through the nature reserve "Schiersteine" to Ballenstedt, first to the "Small Gegenstein" then to the "Large Gegenstein", where it finally reaches its last highlight.
Accompanying brochure for the Teufelsmauerstieg is available at the tourist information offices in Blankenburg, Thale, Ballenstedt, and in bookstores.
