Directions

We start today's stage at the phaeno in Wolfsburg. The science museum offers more than 350 interactive experimental stations that make the topics of natural science and technology tangible with various senses. Along the districts Kohlerberg and Rabenberg, we cycle on Braunschweiger Straße in a southwesterly direction out of the city. We pass Detmerode and the pond of the same name to finally gradually immerse in more rural areas from the town of Hattorf. We cross the narrow river Schunter via the Schunter bridge and continue along Rotdornallee towards Glentorf. There again we cross the Schunter and pass the small town of Klein Steimke. Over field paths we approach motorway A2 and cross it between Ochsendorf and Uhry. Shortly after Ochsendorf, we meet the Schunter again, which we follow through Beienrode with its manor and the Lutterlandbruch nature reserve. Via Groß Steinum and Rottorf, we reach the cathedral city of Königslutter am Elm, which opens the gate to the Elm-Lappwald Nature Park. The imposing collegiate church of Königslutter, today generally called Kaiserdom, was completed in 1170 under Heinrich the Lion and is probably the most famous building and landmark of the city. One of the oldest trees in Germany is also located here. The lime tree is possibly almost 900 years old and has a trunk circumference of up to 15 meters. From Königslutter, we ride through the idyllic towns of Lauingen, Bornum, Abbenrode, Destedt, Hemkenrode, and Veltheim (Ohe), until we arrive in Lucklum, where a visit to the manor is worthwhile. Behind Erkerode, we cycle directly along the edge of the forest of the Elm-Lappwald Nature Park. The Elm is considered the largest and most beautiful beech forest in northern Germany, promising impressive natural experiences. Via Ampleben and Kneitlingen, we finally reach Schöppenstedt, where our stage ends near the park at the Schöppenstedt market.
