Directions

Follow the signposting “R” on the green blossom leaf.

Due to the path layout, the hike can start in any of the three districts. This route description refers to the start in Wienrode near the information point at Harzstraße/corner Mühlenstraße. First, follow Harzstraße in the direction of Treseburg. Behind the alpaca farm, turn left into “Wildapfelweg,” a sunny field and meadow path that leads straight for about 1.5 km through the Wienrode horse paddocks. At the end of the meadows, after a few meters through the tall beech forest, take the wide forest path to the Eggerode forestry house. Here, you cross the long-distance cycle path R1 and continue straight past the forestry house and uphill. On this section, you walk a good stretch along the Harz Monastery Hiking Trail toward Timmenrode. From the open field, a wonderful view opens to the right of the Harz heights near Thale with the Hexentanzplatz as well as the hilly northeastern Harz foreland. The “Küsterberg” welcomes you with a view of the idyllic Timmenrode lying before you. From afar, the “Hamburger Wappen,” an impressive rock of the Teufelsmauer, greets you. Through the village, it goes along Roßtrappenstraße, Blankenburger Straße, and Harzstraße. Before the hedge and along the gray wooden fence in front of the houses on the right side, the path turns right into the “Hasental.” The valley lined with old fruit trees is especially charming in spring during the tree blossom. At the allotment garden area, turn left on the wide field path gently uphill to the junction. Straight ahead, you would reach Wienrode again by a shorter route. However, the circular hiking route turns right here toward Cattenstedt. With a view of Blankenburg Castle and Luisenburg, the path leads into the district of Cattenstedt on the “Steinweg.” Upon reaching the main road, follow it right to the turnoff to “Am Teichkopf.” From here, it is only about 1 km to the district of Wienrode, which you reach on “Kampstraße.” Past the school and kindergarten, you arrive back at the starting point of the hike.
