The Lauenburg castle ruins stand above Stecklenberg near Thale. It is typical for castle sites to be built mostly on a hill. The Lauenburg can also only be reached via a short but steep climb. However, the pulse can settle again on the forest trails towards Friedrichsbrunn. There awaits the descent through the Tiefenbachtal valley towards Treseburg. Anyone struggling with their fitness will find it tough uphill to the Dambachskopf. But that is all in terms of steep elevation gain. The return route to Thale offers another very nice descent on a narrow, sometimes somewhat rough forest path.
