Through the Schimmerwald near Bad Harzburg

This route starts at the parking lot at the end of Ilsenburger Stieg. From the bus turning area, it initially goes into the forest. Slightly left into the valley, the route follows Ilsenburger Stieg along the edge of the Harz. This path is a popular running track. It continues straight until reaching a paved road (4.2 km). Here, there is an option to extend this route. We follow this road to the left and after another kilometer reach Eckertal, where the main road leads us to federal highway B6. We cross it and reach a bike path (Blankenburger Straße). Here, there is an option to shorten this route. Follow the bike path left; after about 5 km, shortly after a hairpin bend, you reach Bad Harzburg. From here, you can go straight into the town or all the way left to the parking lot at Ilsenburger Stieg. Our route initially also follows the bike path left but immediately turns right onto a path into Schimmerwald. In the following minutes, we pass two ponds, passing to the left. Then (7.2 km) you reach a pasture, which we leave to the left. It goes through flat Harz foreland to a crossroads where a large house appears. It continues straight past a smaller house and a large meadow until, behind the forest, at 9.1 km, we turn left and follow the path along the forest edge until it goes half-right over the fields after one kilometer. Once we reach the road from Eckertal to Bettingerode, we cross it and take the road branching off into a valley, then turn left at the next road junction. Shortly after, it goes right onto a field path, again along a forest edge. After one kilometer (14.3 km, shortly after the forest ends), we turn left (passing through two ditches). Through the forest, after 5 minutes, we reach B6. We cross it and continue straight until at the next junction we reach Ilsenburger Stieg again. There, go right to the starting point.
