The jewel of the extensive hiking trail network around the climatic health resort Hahnenklee-Bockswiese is the Liebesbankweg – a 7-kilometer circular hiking route and the first classified premium hiking route in the Harz and Lower Saxony. Along it, there is plenty to discover for young and old: lakes, rivers, and ponds of the UNESCO World Heritage Site “Upper Harz Water Management System,” the remarkable surrounding natural landscape, 25 lovingly crafted benches, and numerous artworks along the path. Both newly in love couples and long-married pairs will find an unforgettable experience here. The exciting water playground is just one of many highlights for all young hikers.

Directions

Starting from the large parking lot at the Stabkirche (Gate of Love) you cross the former bobsled and luge track and the family ski slope after a few meters. Parallel to the summit, the hiking route ascends the Bocksberg at an easy incline. Use the lovingly designed benches and resting spots for a picnic and enjoy the view of Hahnenklee repeatedly even while ascending the Bocksberg. Below the summit, you reach the Liebesbank hut and encounter the access road to the Bocksberg summit. The path continues past the Auerhahn and the ponds of the UNESCO World Heritage Upper Harz Water Management System, where you arrive at the Upper Grumbacher Pond and another place to stop, the Café Egerland. The 7-kilometer circular hiking route leads you back to your starting point, the large parking lot at the Stabkirche.

During your hike, a detour to the “Adventure Bocksberg” is also worthwhile. You reach it by turning right after the Liebesbank hut. The paved Bocksberg road leads you directly to the 726 m high local mountain. Arriving at the Bocksberg, you will find the 1,250 m summer toboggan run “BocksBergBob” and the Bocksberg hut, which invites you to relax and enjoy your stay.
