A must for garden lovers! The rather short route leads through the charming landscape of the garden and park facilities of Wernigerode Castle®. Like in a fairy tale, it towers above the medieval town with its narrow alleys and colorful half-timbered houses. The hike passes through the pleasure garden, along ancient trees in the chestnut grove to the former animal park.
The path approaches the castle from an unusual perspective – from above. In the terrace gardens, time seems to have stood still.

Directions
The path leads from the parking lot towards the castle, crosses Halberstädter Str. at the left traffic light, and turns into Riembecker Str. Then the Lindenallee turns right, at the end of the left row of houses a path begins, which shortly reaches the orangery and the former palm house at the pleasure garden. Following the street towards the Eagle Monument, an information board soon informs about the project „Garden dreams – Historic parks in Saxony-Anhalt.“ Up the stairs to the left of the board, the path leads into the pleasure garden and then on the left through the chestnut grove.
After a short stretch along allotment gardens, the path leaves the pleasure garden and turns right past a shelter, across a street towards the Hotel am Schlosspark. An information board provides details about the animal park/Agnesberg. Along the animal park wall, the path turns left shortly before the silver fir to Marienweg, and after a short steep ascent, the Agnesberg viewpoint is reached. The descent to the castle leads over switchbacks and stairs. After a visit – also to the terrace gardens – a path from the castle hollow branches off to the right downhill and circles the castle hill towards the town. A left turn leads to the Blumenweg viewpoint. This path continues without elevation change to Rosenwinkel. At the end of this idyllic lane lies the pleasure garden again, where the circular path closes and leads back to the parking lot by the familiar way.
