Circular route on the theme "Landscape in Transition"

The route connects the original components of the local World Heritage site: the old town of Goslar and the Rammelsberg ore mine. For the nature-seeking hiker, a landscape unfolds that has been shaped entirely by human hands, after ore was probably first discovered at Rammelsberg about three thousand years ago. After the end of mining in 1988, its traces fell out of view and were gradually covered by the flora characteristic of post-mining landscapes. The route offers a nature experience in an ancient cultural landscape and can be comfortably completed in three hours.

Directions

From the cathedral forehall directly at the Kaiserpfalz parking lot, walk along the city fortifications to the meadows at the old mining village. The route then leads up to the Maltermeister Tower at Rammelsberg – today a popular excursion restaurant. From there, continue down the Smithy Path to the former ore mine, which is now a museum and visitor mine and one of the most outstanding industrial monuments. Through Rammelsberger Street with its miner houses, you reach the old miner quarter at Frankenberg and return to the parking lot at the Kaiserpfalz.
