The route runs along the Eckerlochstieg, the shortest ascent to the Brocken plateau and one of the most beautiful hiking trails in the Harz, mostly on paths rich in stones and roots. The last station of the trail is located in the National Park Visitor Center Brockenhaus with its interactive exhibition on the Brocken summit. Here, Albert tells the final part of the fairy tale and reveals the secret of the White Deer. For their hiking achievement, the little hikers can reward themselves with a special stamp in the fairy tale flyer. In the exciting exhibition of the Brockenhaus, visitors can also learn many interesting things about the National Park and the Brocken. In the Hexenflug cafeteria, you can recharge for the descent. Approximately 2 - 3 hours should be planned.
Please note that the interactive stations on the fairy tale path are dismantled during the winter months.

Directions
The route follows the Eckerlochstieg, the shortest ascent to the Brocken plateau and one of the most beautiful hiking trails in the Harz, mostly on paths rich in stones and roots. Please note that the National Park House Schierke as the starting point is not directly accessible by car.
Challenging, steep, stone- and root-rich ascent over partly large stones with about 500 meters of elevation. Good footwear is absolutely necessary.
Tip: Alternative return route via Brockenstraße to Mönchstein, “Old Bobbahn” and “New Path”. Return trip from Brocken is possible with the Brockenbahn train.
Equipment
Weatherproof clothing, sturdy footwear, and rain protection are recommended.
Directions & Parking facilities
The National Park House Schierke is not accessible by car. It is located at the western exit of Schierke directly on the Brockenstraße, which is closed to public traffic. Please park in the village and follow the signs to "National Park".

Safety guidelines
The High Harz has a mountain climate. Sudden weather changes, wind, rain, and fog are not uncommon, especially on the Brocken. Therefore, weatherproof clothing, sturdy footwear, and rain protection should not be missing when hiking the fairy tale path.
Carrying sufficient backpack provisions for the ascent is also recommended. On the Brocken, there are various places to rest and eat, such as the Brockenhaus.
