The route begins at the central market square in the heart of Herzberg am Harz. Initially, we cycle eastward into the Siebertal valley between the Herzberg paper factory and the spa park. At the next junction, we leave the L521 and turn left into Hüttuferstraße, following it until we turn right onto Lonauer Straße into the Lonautal valley. We follow the course of the Lonau River to the eponymous town, which we cross completely, continuing steadily uphill in a northwesterly direction. Marientalstraße always runs along the river "Kleine Lonau" through the forest. With e-assist, we cycle steadily uphill without turning. Below the Hanskühnenburg excursion restaurant, Marientalstraße merges into Ackerstraße. At this point, we turn left and cycle or push up onto the Hanskühnenburg plateau. The historic mountain lodge offers not only various culinary specialties to recharge your batteries but also an impressive panoramic view from the on-site observation tower towards the Brocken massif and the southern Harz foothills. After a hearty refreshment, we cycle past the castle on the left and come out at the Green Square. There we turn left, cycle downhill, and take the next sharp right turn. We follow this path straight and continuously downhill until we reach the Sösetalsperre. The Sösetalsperre serves both drinking water supply and flood protection and is visible from afar from the surrounding mountain and hilltops. We turn left onto the B498, the Sößestraße, and shortly after the curve turn left again past the parking lot into the forest path. This path always leads us along the bank of the Sösetalsperre and occasionally offers beautiful views of the water. At the end, we reach Sösetalstraße, which we follow turning left at the Eulenburg campsite directly into the historic town center of Osterode am Harz. A short stop is worthwhile here, as the restaurants and cafés in the middle of the idyllic half-timbered town invite you to linger and slow down. We pass through the pretty half-timbered town from north to south and follow the ALOHA Aqua Land along Schwimmbadstraße. Then we turn right into the street "An der Pfahlbreite" and then keep left into "Hohe Straße." Along the way, we pass the Alte Warte and cycle through the hilly gypsum karst landscape of Hainholz through the small village of Düna directly past Daniel Wehmeyer's organic farm. We follow the road through the extensive open landscape to Hörden am Harz, after passing through which we cross the Sieber River and cycle back towards Herzberg am Harz via field and meadow paths, where we reach our starting point, the market square, again.
